Australian film and television royalty enjoy Sydney’s premium event and entertainment destination, the star for an award winning week
The Star, Sydney’s premium entertainment destination, showcased its vast variety of venues as it hosted the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTAs) Awards this week.
From an intimate luncheon for over 600 leading Australian film and television production elite, to a globally broadcast theatre style Awards Night for 1500 guests; to two distinct after parties and five star luxurious accommodation for A-list guests, The Star shone as Sydney’s premium events and entertainment destination.
Hot on the heels of two sold out John Farnham concerts in The Star’s new Event Centre last week, the multipurpose space was initially transformed into the venue to host the ACCTAs Luncheon on Monday 28 January 2013. The Star Event Centre then moved into full gear to create a theatre style event set up on Wednesday 30 January for the prestigious AACTA Awards Ceremony. Retractable seating was deployed and draping removed to reveal a larger stage area and seating for 1500 event attendees.
The star studded roll call of guests made their way down the five metre-wide red carpet and into the venue, stopping along the way to speak with national and international journalists.
Host Russell Crowe was joined on stage by internationally acclaimed Australian actors including Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and AACTA President, Geoffrey Rush.
The post event press conference took place in The Attic – a smaller function space in the Event Centre with 16 hardwired ADSL lines to support the international journalists’ requirements. Cementing the Event Centre’s position as one of the most advanced technical events spaces in the country, the entire event was captured flawlessly and broadcast on Network 10.
Illustrating further the extent of diversity of the entire event destination, Cherry cocktail bar at The Star played host to the after party for the Luncheon, whereas The Star’s world-renowned nightclub, Marquee, was the destination for the after-party celebration of the AACTA Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening.
To round out the program, Sydney’s newest five star hotel, The Darling, was home to AACTA members and event attendees, including A-list stars, for the weeklong event.
Renato Rispoli, Awards Event Director, Australian Film Institute (AFI) Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) commented on the flawless production.
“Congratulations to The Star on running a new venue so well and for impressing so many people. While I am rarely daunted, this year I was, and I can sincerely say that we would not have made it without the support, expertise and wise counsel of The Star Sales Team.
“We were honoured to use this space and thrilled the team thought outside the box to address the challenges we had in staging the event. Overall I have nothing but praise and thanks,” said Mr Rispoli.
The versatility of the various spaces at The Star allowed AACTA to host an assembly of unique events all in a variety of spaces within the one location.
