Leading Event Industry organisations have joined forces to tackle the pressing issues and challenges facing the industry in a specialised two-day Symposium next month. The inaugural Australian Event Symposium will be staged on October 6 and 7 at Sydney Olympic Park, with four esteemed international keynote presentations and a range of innovative workshop sessions.
An initiative of the Australian Event Awards, the Symposium is regarded as a premier learning opportunity for the Special Events Industry and event professionals. As a special addition, the International Special Events Society (ISES) will run its Regional Education Conference (REC) as part of the Symposium.
The Event Symposium brings the Australian Events Industry under one roof to discuss the demanding issues, concerns and opportunities in the industry’s changing environment. The conference aims to enhance attendees’ collective skills and strengthen across-sector ties in order to rise against future challenges.

Highly acclaimed international business events speaker, Corbin Ball, follows with Trends in Technology: Are You Up to Date?, which covers the most significant technology trends impacting meeting planning and society.
Jaime Nack, one of Los Angeles’ leading environmental consultants and marketing strategists, demonstrates how all event professionals can implement sustainability programs, in preparation for the new International Standard for the Events Industry, ISO 20121.
As the Festival Director and Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Jonathan Mills, shares his knowledge on how creativity should be applied throughout the industry to foster innovation and enhance branding and marketing, in Engaging Event Creativity: Ideas and Innovation for Events and Event Businesses.
A range of specialised workshops are staged over the two days, discussing topics relevant to the industry, including maximising social media, strategic PR Communication, creative event brand marketing, managing sponsors, stakeholder management, digital tools, sustainability, risk management and the power of the professional.
In partnership with the Event Awards, several industry associations and organisations will deliver the 2011 Event Symposium, including the Australian Centre for Event Management, the PCO Association, the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, the Australian International Sporting Events Secretariat, the Public Relations Institute of Australia, Sponsorship Australasia and the Sustainable Event Alliance.
