Brisbane Marketing is pleased to welcome Rob Nelson as its new Brisbane Convention Bureau chief.
As General Manager, Conventions and Business Events, Mr Nelson’s new role is focused on increasing national and international sales efforts post G20 with key industry partners including the sales team at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, and Tourism and Events Queensland. The appointment is another step towards enhancing Brisbane’s global reputation and the awareness provided by the recent 2014 G20 Leaders Summit.
Mr Nelson joins Brisbane Marketing from an extensive career in major events, sport and general management consultancy. His executive positions include CEO of the Glenelg Football Club (South Australia), GM Commercial Operations, Port Adelaide Football Club, GM Partnerships and Strategy at the South Australian National Football League and CEO South Australian Rugby Union.
Previously he managed the Marketing & Commercial and Group Events roles for Events SA at the South Australian Tourism Commission, working on premier events such as the Rugby World Cup and Tour Down Under. His considerable event experience extends to the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee, International Rugby Sevens and Surf Lifesaving.
Having relocated with his family over the Christmas period, he is looking forward to working with key industry stakeholders and the Brisbane Marketing team in fine-tuning a new strategic direction for the Brisbane Convention Bureau.
“It’s an exciting time for Brisbane and I see a real opportunity for business events to leverage and enhance Brisbane’s positioning globally, particularly with significant infrastructure development on the horizon complementing our existing venues and our world-class Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre,” Mr Nelson said.
“The key for us will be to develop a very clear strategy in a highly competitive market and working with our partners to deliver economic growth for Brisbane.”
Mr Nelson started with the Brisbane Convention Bureau this week.
