Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) won two of the major national award categories at the Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) Conference on Hamilton Island on Tuesday night.
BCEC was named Australia’s best meetings venue for the second year in succession taking home the award for “Meeting Venue – 500 delegates or more.”
In back to back wins, BCEC was also announced winner of “Association or Government Meeting of The Year” for its successful hosting of the 2014 G20 Leaders Summit.
BCEC General Manager, Bob O’Keeffe said the two major venue awards – for the
Australia’s best meeting venue and best event of the year – were the most relevant and indicative of the Centre’s performance and professionalism and its continuing commitment to the industry.
“The MEA Awards acknowledge excellence in the meetings and events industry and we are thrilled to be recognised in these categories.” Mr O’Keeffe said the G20 Leaders Summit was a unique opportunity for Brisbane and the Centre and its success was the result of a unified citywide effort.
“I am extremely proud of the incredible efforts of all BCEC staff who helped to deliver an outstandingly successful event with G20 and who continue to deliver great outcomes for our clients each and every day.”
“These awards follow a high profile year and the biggest in the Centre’s history. We look forward to building on the international recognition and momentum of the G20 to drive more conventions and high yield business visitation to the Centre and the city.”
Mr O’Keeffe said the Awards provided an important showcase and high profile recognition of the standards of industry leadership and professionalism and congratulated this year’s winners and finalists.
