Canberra’s Floriade and the National Convention Centre were gold winners in the Australian Tourism Awards presented in Cairns last week.
Floriade 2010 – Imagination: Where will yours take you? won the Major Festivals and Events category
Floriade 2010 celebrated creativity, fantasy and endless possibilities as Commonwealth Park was transformed into a world of entertainment and discovery, set amongst a million blooms. With over 8700 square metres of magically and strategically placed flower beds, the event experts at Australian Capital Tourism are responsible for ensuring that every flower “unfurls at the right time to become part of Floriade’s famous Kaleidoscope of colours”.
With the theme Imagination: Where will yours take you? Floriade was brought to life through inspired garden beds, non-stop entertainment, horticultural delights, fun kids’ activities, fascinating demonstrations, exhibitions and much more.
Floriade generated direct visitor expenditure to the ACT of $26.9m and interstate and international visitation of 131,129. Its proven longevity, significant economic benefits, high media profile and industry support ensures its place as a Canberra icon delivering substantial tourism benefits to the ACT.
