Captain Cook Cruises has been announced as the successful tenderer to provide free, special event ferry services from Darling Harbour to Sydney’s newest exhibition centre – the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island (SEC@GI). Captain Cook Cruises will begin the service when the exhibition centre opens for its first event in February 2014.
General Manager of SEC@GI, Malu Barrios, says Captain Cook Cruises was chosen as the successful tenderer because of their extensive experience and the flexibility of their fleet.
“A temporary ferry wharf is being built at SEC@GI to accommodate the ferries, which will provide visitors to SEC@GI with a regular and quick mode of transport from Darling Harbour.
“Travelling by ferry on the harbour is one of the best ways to commute through Sydney! We are looking forward to Captain Cook Cruises providing our guests with an accessible, special event transport service,” Ms Barrios said.
Mr Haworth, General Manager of Captain Cook Cruises, said the company was excited about the partnership between SEC@GI and Captain Cook Cruises.
“We are delighted to be chosen by operators AEG Ogden to provide these services for easy access to the new interim facility. Our experience in providing these services for events will ensure we are able to deliver a quality customer experience,” Mr Haworth explained.
Special event buses will also run from Central Station to Glebe Island via Darling Harbour and the site will also house a taxi rank. Special event transport schedules will be tailored for each show with details available online prior to the event.
Captain Cook Cruises has been awarded the contract for three years.
