Entries for the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge 2012 have been counted and the finalists have now been selected. Australians across all states have taken up the challenge creating some healthy industry rivalry! The creativity of contestants this year has exceeded expectations and keen Australian food hospitality industry professionals have revealed their true colors and unmistakable talent.
Finalists are now off to Sydney, a gastronomes paradise, to the exclusive Dilmah Real High Tea Charitea event on the 12th September 2012 where an overall winner will be announced. Competition is expected to be fierce with the winner receiving a once in a lifetime VIP culinary experience in Sri Lanka.
At the event the culinary maestros will compete to create the perfect tea inspired food and beverage menu for guest judges Dilhan C. Fernando – son of Dilmah Founder Merrill J. Fernando, Black Hat Chef Bernd Uber and highly acclaimed celebrity chef, Peter Kuruvita. Finalists have been selected from hundreds of entries nationwide for original creations such as the Pekoe Boo cocktail, Dilmah Moroccan Mint & Chocolate Mousse and Berry Sweet Tea wowing their state judges!
The challenge requires entrants to craft their own original tea-based cocktail, mocktail, tea-infused dish and present a harmonious tea and food pairing all including quality Dilmah Ceylon tea. Founder of Dilmah, Merrill J. Fernando has said “The aim of the competition is to ‘put the tea back in high tea’ so this year the panel of expert judges will be paying particular attention to the use of tea as the core ingredient, the understanding of the high tea tradition, outstanding presentation and high quality service and the reflection of Dilmah’s passion for tea”.
