This week, another major conference has confirmed Hunter Valley Wine Country as the location for its 2012 conference. This further enforces that the area is beginning to see a recovery in Business Tourism after the GFC induced downturn in 2009/10.
Family Business Australia 2012 National Conference is expected to bring approximately 500 delegates to the Hunter Valley in August 2012 for four days. The main venue for the conference is Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley with some of the wineries, hosting other elements of the conference. It is estimated that the conference will be worth approximately $754,000 to the local economy.
Family Business Australia is the peak body for family and private business in Australia whose members are from multi-generation, first generation and multi-sibling/cousin owned family businesses and their advisors.
“As an area whose economic activity thrives largely on the many family owned and operated businesses in the Wine & Tourism sectors, Hunter Valley Wine Country is a most appropriate choice for the 2012 conference. It will be the first time that the Hunter Valley has hosted this conference” said Phillippa Taylor, CEO Family Business Australia.
This conference is one of many that are returning to the Hunter Valley after the long ‘drought’ in business tourism. The most recent statistics jointly commissioned each month by Cessnock City Council and Hunter Valley Wine Country Tourism from BA Surveys, show that the first four months of 2011 have seen an increase in delegates numbers of around 33% and delegate room nights of 132% on the previous year. The estimated value of these delegates until the end of April, is estimated to be around $10.5m.
“Whilst we are coming off a very low base of the difficult years of 2009 & 2010 and still have a long way to go, this does indicate a very welcome return to more economically sustainable times. This would appear to be in line with what is happening around Australia, with Business Tourism leading the way in a tourism recovery” said Ruth Appleby, Business Tourism Marketing Manager at Hunter Valley Convention Bureau.
Hunter Valley Convention Bureau is a section of Hunter Valley Wine Country Tourism that is responsible for attracting Meetings, Incentives and Conferences to the area.
