Last week 4,000 delegates to the Amway India Leadership Conference descended on the MCG for a concert and dinner. This was the largest ever corporate event at the MCG and the first time that number of people had dined at the venue outside a match day.
Two years ago the MCVB pitched for the Amway India incentive to be held in Melbourne. Peter Jones told ASE that access to the MCG for the final event was the deal clincher. In fact the pitch was presented to the organisers on the ground with images of Indian cricketers playing on the MCG shown on the stadium’s large screens.
Then 18 months of preparation to bring the event to fruition.
This was the final event of the incentive trip and in the days leading up to the event Melbourne sweltered in 35 degree heat (not a big worry for Indians). Then shortly before the delegates started arriving for the big event Melbourne was hit with a “cool change” aka a severe thunderstorm. The temperature dropped 18 degrees and gale force winds whipped across the city and part of the staging was blown away. The showers set in for the rest of the evening.
An event producer’s biggest nightmare? Let’s just say the team from Peter Jones Special Events took Peter’s advice and just “went with the flow”.
A big feature of the event was a 2 x 6 over cricket match for two teams comprised of the high achievers – there was no way a little bit of rain was going to put a stop to this. Especially when the coach/umpire was Adam Gilchrist.
This was followed by an hour long performance by a top Indian pop band before dinner – at 10PM.
I interviewed Peter the following day and we are editing that interview to have online in the New Year. Update – video interview with Peter Jones
In the meantime here is gallery of some pix from the event and here are some figures on the catering by Epicure
