The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) – Australia’s largest regional convention centre and first convention centre in the world to achieve EarthCheck Gold certification is looking forward to a stupendous year as the venue prepares to celebrate 10 years of operation in June.
Following on from a successful year of industry accolades including Australia’s pinnacle major venue award (2012 Best Venue for 500 delegates or more – Meetings and Events Australia), the Centre continues to strengthen its appeal and build on its reputation as a preferred venue for business events.
The GCCEC continues to attract high profile national and international events providing the region with boundless opportunities for tourism, trade and investment with an annual average of 160 business events and more than 350,000 delegate days.
Gearing up to mark its 10th anniversary, the Centre has amassed more than 25 industry awards, international credentials and a reputation for delivering a tailored service which accounts for a high ratio of repeat clientele. Not surprising, the GCCEC was heralded as ‘a new era in conventions and events’ increasing the Gold Coast’s event capacity six-fold upon opening.
Adrienne Readings, the first female to be appointed general manager of a convention centre in Australia, still proudly oversees the venue which has become an iconic landmark in the nation’s favourite leisure destination. A $40 million extension in 2010 was timed to complement growing demand and numerous forward initiatives occurring in tourism. Since then, the Centre’s increased its technological offering and its appeal proves to be more popular than ever.
In 2018 the Commonwealth Games will further shine a spotlight on the nation’s fastest growing regional city and without a doubt the Gold Coast’s jewel will continue to play a significant role in creating a unique opportunity to have a vast impact on the city’s reputation as an enticing business destination for years to come.
