The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) – Australia’s largest regional convention centre continues to gain notoriety attracting strong international interest with recent upgrades to the City’s transport infrastructure and a dynamic appeal that continues to entice business events with a smorgasbord of leisure and entertainment on offer.
Having recently celebrated ten years of operation the Centre has worked tirelessly on lifting and promoting the destinations profile in conjunction with industry partners such as Gold Coast Business Events (part of Gold Coast Tourism) through programs and joint efforts to appeal to an international audience. The partnership has resulted in many joint wins including the upcoming World Volunteer Conference which trumped Mexico City and set to bring 1,500 delegates and inject $3 million into the local economy.
Information retrieval specialists, world volunteers and finance experts are among some 4,000 international delegates who have or will converge on the Gold Coast this latter half of the year to attend conferences, network and share their expertise. These international conferences include SIGIR Conference (association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval), the 23rd International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) World Volunteer Conference, and the World Credit Union Conference (WOCCU).
In September the GCCEC will host the highly anticipated International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Asia-Pacific Client/Supplier Business Workshop, in September of 2014. In an industry coup for the destination and the GCCEC, the 3-day event will welcome 15 ICCA members and their association clients to converge for a strictly B2B session.
The continuous focus of the GCCEC to improve its own product offering and benchmark at the highest of levels is why the venue has established an outstanding reputation for service excellence. Keeping abreast of the latest trends, providing the best infrastructure and technology is paramount. Competitive in the market as a boutique style of venue, the Centre provides services that event organisers love like free Wi-Fi for more than 2,000 concurrent internet users, in-house audio visual services and award-winning cuisine.
Additionally, the recent introduction of infrastructure to the City’s transport system in the form of a new Light Rail network has been designed to improve the connectivity between major activity centres. Conference delegates now have access to a wider range of accommodation options and incentive to explore other their areas of the Gold Coast. Delegates already have access to 3,000 accommodation options within walking distance of the Centre. Being able to hop onto the tram and travel to and from the Centre within ten minutes of famous Surfers paradise, links together more than 27,000 accommodation rooms within an 8km radius of the GCCEC. The ease of mobility using a world-class tram system perfectly complements the two international airports (Gold Coast and Brisbane) that service the region.
