Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has again been recognised for its environmental leadership, receiving the Green Table Award for Excellence in Environmental Sustainability at the Restaurant & Catering Australia Awards held at the Centre last night.
This is the second national award this year which highlights the Centre’s achievements in the areas of environmental and social responsibility, adding to the MEA (Meetings & Events Australia) National Award for Corporate Social Responsibility received at the Annual Conference in May.
These prestigious awards acknowledge the Centre’s commitment to sustainable development and work practices and its achievements in this area.
BCEC General Manager, Bob O’Keeffe, said the award lies at the very heart of the Centre’s operational ethos which is based on quality of product and service and caring for the community and the environment.
“This is our culture, epitomising who we are and the passion we share for quality and sustainability. The Centre’s food philosophy is focussed on sourcing and showcasing the best of our local seasonal produce, together with a meticulous commitment to the highest of culinary standards and practices.
“Our kitchens are the nerve centre of our community activities, donating thousands of meals to the local Foodbank agency, helping to educate members of our local community most challenged by society, in basic nutrition and cooking skills and hosting an annual Christmas lunch which has become a popular tradition for the Salvation Army’s many clients.”
This award follows last month’s announcement in London of BCEC named Worldwide Convention Centre Team of the year. BCEC which is operated by leading international venue management group AEG Ogden has received a total of 127 industry awards including 58 catering awards.
BCEC was proud to host last night’s gala awards event which brought together 400 members of the restaurant and catering industry from around the nation.
