Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) turned in a dominant performance at the prestigious Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Queensland Industry Awards, winning three of the major award categories.
The BCEC team took home awards for three of the major categories – Meeting Venue 500 Delegates or More, Banqueting & Catering and Corporate Social Responsibility (over 30 full-time employees) taking the Centre’s total award tally to 122 including 57 catering awards.
This remarkable achievement adds further to the momentum created by the recent opening of the Centre’s boutique expansion, BCEC on Grey Street which provides the Centre with 52% more convention space and positions it as Australia’s most flexible meetings and events venue.
With the launch of BCEC on Grey Street designed to specifically address an evolving boutique meetings market, 2012 is a significant year for BCEC, which is operated by leading venue management group, AEG Ogden.
Convention Centre General Manager, Bob O’Keeffe said the Centre is a major supporter and a key player in the Business Events Industry. “Business events are an important part of the economic fabric of Queensland and Australia but their contribution is considerably greater in terms of knowledge sharing and scientific and social legacies.”
Mr O’Keeffe extended the Centre’s congratulations to all State winners and commended MEA for their dedication to encouraging professionalism and excellence in the industry. He said winning the Corporate Social Responsibility Award was particularly gratifying for the Centre’s staff. “This is an area of strategic focus for us and one that is personally very satisfying and rewarding for our entire staff.”
Following the Queensland State Awards, BCEC will now progress to the MEA National Awards to be held in Sydney during the MEA National Conference in April.
