The Melbourne and Sydney chapters of the International Special Events Society (ISES) are to close.
In a statement sent to members today the Australasian Chair, Gian Blundo said…
“In short, the financial obligations and increasing running costs made continuation of the chapter difficult in today’s business climate. With financial consideration, the Board made the decision to reject the financial membership proposal posed by ISES International, and despite efforts by both parties to reach a financially sustainable compromise, the decision has resulted in the effective closure of the ISES Melbourne and Sydney Chapters on June 30th, 2015”.
The Australian chapters have struggled to maintain membership and to attract members and visitors to their educational and networking events which in turn was straining the resources of the volunteer run chapters.
The original ISES Australia chapter was established in Sydney in the late 80s when the special events industry in this country was still struggling to be recognised.
Sydney members are gathering tonight for the final celebratory event of the chapter.
ASE owner Trevor Connell is a founding member and former board member of the Australian chapter and is working on his reflections of ISES in Australia to be published soon.
