Watching the Games from the IBC
By Catherine Petrowsky 13 October 2000
The IBC was a fabulous place to be, watching the Games from there was like being so near and yet so far.
The coverage made it so alive. SOBO did a great job. The underwater shots were my favourite.
Working at the IBC was like being at all places at the same time. From one screen to another it was like a swimmer racing a runner, a restless wrestler going boxing, a basketball player giving a hand to a team on the other screen.
Watching the athletes was an Every breath Ill be watching you situation, and from the boat race to the diving, as Rod Stewart sang I am sailing to be near you
The spirit of the Games was defiantly being broadcast worldwide and all the joy that went with it.
Bravo Sydney 2000

Catherine Petrowsky is from Paris and worked as a technical officer in the IBC seen here with so many screens.

Working in the Media Centre
By Katy Gibson 13 October 2000\
During the most mega event that was the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games I volunteered and worked in the Olympic News Service centre at Olympic Park.
It was a wonderful, unique experience that I will definitely not forget for a long time to come.
Once I got over having to wear the very unflattering volunteer's uniform in public and the fact that I had to walk almost 4kms to get to and from the media centre, I just soaked up the incredible atmosphere out there. Nothing could ever have prepared me for the feeling I would get from being part of the most amazing event Sydney has ever hosted -it was just fantastic!
My job was to take the flash quotes from the journalists at the completion of the events, to edit them, and send them through to the sub-editors who then used them in their stories which were posted on the intranet. It was especially exciting after some of the big events, like the swimming finals, to sit by the phone and hope for a quote from someone like Susie O'Neill or Michael Klim.
On the odd occasion this hope was shattered somewhat. Like when Cathy's 400m final was being run and I got a phone call with the badminton results! Not to be disrespectful to the highly talented badminton team of course!
Overall, the experience was a fabulous one and if we ever have another opportunity to host the Olympics I will volunteer again so as to be a part of this awesome event!!
