Many hundreds of thousands of people watched the Olympic Torch Relay during its 100 day journey across Australia. My own experience was in Earlwood, at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and at Sydney Town Hall.

Earlwood

The torch travelled through my home town of Earlwood at 8:12 am on Sept 12th Bexley Rd was lined with hundreds of people. The enthusiasm of the people lining the street was similar to that which had been experienced all over Australia .

Earlwood has a large Greek population and they showed the flag

Kids with their own version of the torch were common wherever it went

And the mail was delivered – eventually

Mrs Macquarie’s Chair

It seemed that every change of torchbearer was a photo opportunity. At Mrs Macquarie’s Chair the Opera House and Bridge made a stunning backdrop, but this image was then outdone by the image on the Opera House forecourt when the rings on the Bridge were illuminated.
