World Meetings Leader to Address SCVB Market Brief

Sydney, March 7, 2007

One of the world’s most influential meeting industry leaders - Convention Industry Council President and CEO Mary Power – will address the Australian business events industry this month.

Ms Power will be the key speaker at the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau annual Market Brief, “Global Market Forces – What Next?”, to be held at Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel on March 21.

The Market Brief is designed to provide industry players with the latest insight into international market trends and conditions to assist with their business planning.

SCVB Managing Director Jon Hutchison said Ms Power would address Australia’s place in changing global markets, while attendees would also be given a copy of a new SCVB report on international markets trends.

Ms Power heads a federation of 32 leading international associations representing all areas of the meeting, convention and exhibition industry.  She has been named four times among the world’s 25 most influential meetings industry figures by Meeting News magazine, while in 2005 she was selected by the New York Society of Association Executives as one of the top five outstanding women industry figures.

Her presentation will cover world trends including the emergence of intermediaries, environmental issues, attrition, long and short-haul travel patterns, what's hot and what's not, and developments in the association and convention market in the US and internationally.

The Market Brief will commence with morning tea and networking, followed by Ms Power’s presentation and a panel discussion on the Australian market and international influences, led by meetings industry veteran Ian Stuart.  Panel members will include Tourism Australia Director International Marketing Richard Beere.

The SCVB Market Brief will be held from 10.30am-noon on Wednesday March 21 at Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney.  Cost $55 for members, $65 non-members.  For tickets and full details, phone 02 9331 4045.
