Col Hughes has just been appointed the new Chairman of the Board, at the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB), effective immediately.

Mr Hughes has previously been a director of the SCVB for five years, and has also served on the Boards of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) as well as the Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF Australia).

In naming the new Chairman, Minister Brown said, “I congratulate Col Hughes on his appointment and look forward to working with him and the SCVB Board and management team.”

Currently, Mr Hughes is the Chairman of the National Tourism Alliance, and still serves on the boards of the Best Western Hotels Australia as well as Tourism Northern Territory.

Mr Hughes’ experience in the industry includes being a founding partner of Global Aviation Services, and holding senior positions at several major airlines including Qantas, Cathay, Northwest and Continental.

Mr Hughes has said that he is delighted to be taking on the role to bring key business events to Sydney and NSW.
