Lauded Tasmanian chef joins Wrest Point team

17 September 2007

Much-lauded Tasmanian chef Luke Stepsys will join the Wrest Point food and beverage team as Chef de Cuisine of their fine dining restaurants The Point Revolving Restaurant and Pier One Restaurant and Bar.

Luke has been with the Terrace Restaurant for five years, and has received rave reviews by local and national food and wine media. The Terrace was named in Australian Gourmet Traveller’s 2008 Restaurant Guide for the first time, and Luke’s degustation menu was featured across seven pages in the most recent issue of Travel & Living magazine. His menu was also described in the September issue of Qantas’ inflight magazine The Australian Way as “the modern, even exciting, menu of young chef Luke Stepsys would be reason enough to visit the Terrace”.

He has been an integral part of the Country Club Tasmania food and beverage team’s highly successful wine dinner series, which has included the Penfolds Grange Dinner of a Lifetime, described by Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago as the “crème de la crème” of dinners he had attended throughout the world.

“We are thrilled that Luke is joining the team at Wrest Point to lead the continued development of our fine dining services in The Point and Pier One,” Wrest Point General Manager Mike Davey said.

“His creative and daring menus have taken the Terrace to a new level of fine dining in Tasmania, and we look forward to him adding his unique flavour in Hobart.”

Luke will stay on at the Terrace for the next two months before commencing with Wrest Point on November 5.

The Point Revolving Restaurant is Wrest Point’s signature fine dining restaurant, sitting atop the iconic tower and providing a 360 degree view of the city of Hobart, Derwent River and Mt Wellington.

The Point is well-known for its modern Australian dining experience, fused with the tradition of table-side cooking that has been a specialty of the restaurant for 34 years. The restaurant uses the finest in Tasmanian produce as well as the best from throughout Australia.

Pier One Restaurant and Bar is beautifully located beside the Derwent River, featuring the freshest Tasmanian produce and local wines.
