Pure Tasmania properties make Conde Nast Gold List

December 14, 2007

International magazine Conde Nast Traveller has named Pure Tasmania’s Henry Jones Art Hotel and Freycinet Lodge on its prestigious Gold List Awards for 2008.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel, which was acquired by Federal Group this week, was named one of the Best Hotels in the World in the rooms category. The magazine nominates the hotel’s “X Factor” as “the 50 rooms and suites have natural timber furniture, steel-and-glass bathrooms and hi-tech amenities”.

Freycinet Lodge on Tasmania’s East Coast was named on the Gold List for Best Hotels in the World in the food category. It nominated the “X Factor” as “at the informal Richardson’s Bistro, food is prepared in an open kitchen while diners enjoy views of Coles Bay. The Bay Restaurant has one of the best wine lists in Tasmania.

There are fireside wine and beer tastings at Hazard’s Bar”. The magazine goes on to say “the two restaurants make good use of fresh, local ingredients, with a focus on seafood”.

“We are thrilled that two of our icon properties have been recognised for accommodation and food and wine – two of the core experiences we offer through Pure Tasmania,” Director of Tourism Bernard Dwyer said.

“Having acquired the Henry Jones Art Hotel only this week, we certainly believe this sets the benchmark for quality accommodation and experiences in Tasmania, and the strong foundation that Pure Tasmania’s properties and experiences can build on.

“Matt Casey and his team should be congratulated on yet another international award.

“Freycinet Lodge has a long-held reputation for using outstanding fresh local produce in its restaurants, and Chef de Cuisine Konrad Melling and his team are well-deserving of this award.”

The Henry Jones Art Hotel award comes close on the heels of another major recognition from Conde Nast, being named the Best Overseas Leisure Hotel for Australasia and the South Pacific.
