Phillip Island Nature Parks has hosted approximately 7000 Chinese business people in April, for the Amway China Leadership Seminar Program, in one of the biggest business incentives the city has ever seen, and the biggest piece of business the
Nature
Park
has received.
The whirlwind, five day visit will showcase
Melbourne
’s best attractions, all of whom competitively pitched to the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau to take part in the landmark incentive event. The program is expected to generate an estimate of $34.9 million for the state.
Nicole Hill, Director of Sales and Marketing said “After two years of pitching I am delighted that
Phillip
Island
Nature
Park
has been selected as an outing destination. The team has designed a fantastic program for the delegates that will showcase our great nature parks products”.
Phillip Island Nature Parks organised special events for the delegates to take place in groups of 900 over 8 days. With the Penguin Parade being the number one attraction in
Australia
for inbound Chinese internationals, a visit to the Penguin Parade is a mandatory to make up part of the program. The nature park will be providing guests with a soft toy penguin, with an Australian bbq at
Churchill
Hill
Island
to follow. The nature park has sourced meat locally and has employed over 200 locals to take part in the bbq.
In addition a special visit has been organised to
Churchill
Island
including sheep shearing, blacksmiths, champion working dogs, Clydesdale Horses and an afternoon tea of billy tea and damper with Farm Coordinator Gordon Brown. Gordon is an attraction himself having won numerous farming awards and possessing skills that range from flying aeroplanes, driving road trains, breaking in horses, working sheep dogs and hand milking cows.
Following this a BBQ dinner on
Churchill
Island
has been organised under Amway themed marquess, with over 900 guests per night. “The revenue generated for the local
Phillip
Island
community will be profound. We have hired local event planners, local catering, local entertainment and will employ 250 people from the local community to work at the event” Nicole Hill commented.
During the visit the groups will also attend business sessions and a Gala Dinner at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) in
Melbourne
. They will also take part in special team building health runs that will see 1500 Chinese delegates at a time, take to the famous running track at the Royal Botanic Gardens, locally known as The Tan, while raising more than $57 000 for children’s charity Berry Street.
Sandra Chipchase, CEO, MCVB said “The direct and indirect value to Melbourne and Victoria, in terms of future tourism and business opportunities is phenomenal, particularly when you look at expectations of future outbound tourism from
China
”.
