Blank canvas creates high impact at RSVP08

22nd July

When Staging Connections sat down to conceptualise the design and theme for its stand at RSVP recently, the team faced a similar dilemma as its clients.

“How do you stand out from the crowd and leave a lasting impression while meeting your marketing objectives and lead generation target?  Oh, and don’t forget the small matter of a tight budget!”

So began the creative journey based on the simple philosophy “If you started an event with a blank sheet of paper what could you achieve?”

This philosophy became the inspiration for the design of Staging Connections’ stand which was constructed entirely using blank sheets of A4 and A3 paper. The back of the stand comprised a curved wall, with simple dowel spacers onto which the A3 sheets were fixed, each slightly overlapping. Even Staging Connections’ logo was created using the same technique!  Overhead a circular truss was rigged and the stand was finished with a paper chandelier in A4 sheets. Lighting detail was added via low heat LED lights programmed in colour sequences which enhanced the texture of the walls and demonstrated how technology can help bring styled environments to life.

According to Russell Dixon, Manager of Creative Services at Staging Connections, the moral of the story is to always think outside the square when it comes to events.

“Consider the event, your audience, your budget, the environment and importantly what you want to achieve. Simple can be very effective if it’s well executed. Two reams of recycled copy paper and the result we were able to achieve was a standout at a very overcrowded industry expo!  Many visitors were in disbelief when we explained our simple but effective approach!

“An added bonus of our unique stand was that we were able to recycle almost all of the components – so we were very mindful of the environment as well,” Russell said.

As part of its RSVP sponsorship, Staging Connections also designed and created the funky entertainment area, Spotlight Stage. Staging Connections used a range of technology to bring the space to life as a platform for entertainment and performers throughout the event.
