Tourism Australia to take Business Events Trade Mission to Kuala Lumpur in 2009

5 November 2008

Tourism Australia today announced that the 2009 Team Australia Business Events Educational (TABEE), targeting Asia’s lucrative business events market, will be held in Kuala Lumpur between 2 and 4 March 2009.

The event, now in its 11th year, is Tourism Australia’s largest trade event for the business events sector in Asia and a joint marketing initiative of Business Events Australia (BEA) and the members of the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB).

Tourism Australia Managing Director Geoff Buckley said the key focus of TABEE in 2009 was expanding Australia’s reach into the rich source of business from the 11 key markets in Asia.

“Our objective is to motivate and inspire buyers to consider bringing their next business event to Australia. The event is a valuable opportunity for Australian sellers to educate key clients from Asia about our capability to deliver outstanding business events,” Mr Buckley said.

“In recent years, Australia has seen some excellent growth in the business events sector from Asia, particularly in the lucrative corporate meetings and incentive markets.

“This is the first time that TABEE has been held in Kuala Lumpur and Tourism Australia is pleased to be expanding our reach in the critical Asian marketplace, at a time when new business opportunities will make a meaningful impact to the Australian tourism industry”.

TABEE includes a three day program of business forums, one-on-one appointments, seminars, events and special briefings between members of the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) and key buyers from the business events market across Asia.

Head of Business Events Australia, Joyce DiMascio said that in 2009 there would be a major focus on Australia’s capability to host green events.

“The Australian business events sector is leading the way when it comes to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) and this will be at the forefront of our communications in 2009.

“With more than AU$4.8 billion invested across the country in new business events infrastructure, catering to the growing needs of international conference, incentive and business delegates, TABEE will showcase the new and diverse tourism products designed for this important sector,” Ms DiMascio said.
