The Chivas Studio Sydney declared the best in the world

16 April 2009

The Chivas Studio Sydney, the 17th global installation of this unique concept, has been hailed as the world’s best, as it wrapped up in Sydney on Friday April 3.

“We’re overwhelmed with how The Chivas Studio was received in Sydney over its four nights, with the only complaint being that it’s not a permanent venue,” Chivas Regal Marketing Manager, Matt Tallentire said.

“The Chivas Studio events allowed us to reach more than 1,200 new luxury consumers through our key event partners, GQ Magazine and Sport & Style Magazine, inviting guests to experience what it is to Live with Chivalry across the four nights. Quite simply we couldn’t be happier with how the whole week went”.

Chivas Regal Global Mixologist Max Warner who has weaved his particular form of magic at 16 of the 17 Chivas Studios across the globe from Barcelona to Brazil , said the Sydney event was the best yet.

“The combination of the site, the venue, the calibre of the crowd, the service, the food – I’ve not seen better. The Sydney Chivas Studio now sets the new benchmark for the world,” Warner said.

The Walsh Bay warehouse venue was transformed into The Chivas Studio for the week, with intimate lounge areas and signature bars serving up a series of Chivas Regal cocktails created exclusively for The Chivas Studio Sydney. The luxurious event space blended traditional and contemporary finishes, a highlight was the stunning back bar display incorporating the Chivas Regal bottles and global Chivas Studio vine design crafted from wire, perspex, light bulbs and metal.

Max Warner was supported behind the bar by SIGNÉ Spirits Ambassador Ben Davidson and a bar team of young guns hand picked from various top Sydney venues including Hugh Payten-Smith (Bacco), Pierre Fajloun (Ivy), Jorge Nemec (The Beresford) and Wil Oxenham (Rockpool Bar & Grill).

The food menu was designed by Sean Connolly (2008 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Chef of the Year) of Astral who took inspiration from the subtle characteristics of the Chivas Regal range - Chivas Regal 12 Year Old, 18 Year Old and the recently launched Chivas Regal 25 Year Old to develop the unique whisky-inspired food matches.

Renowned lounge singer Louie Austen was flown in from Vienna to perform each night and was supported by international DJ, Jon Sa Trinxa who kept the party going well into the night each evening.

The Chivas Studio is the experiential component to Live with Chivalry,  the new global platform for Chivas Regal and forms part of an integrated campaign comprising advertising, events and public relations aiming to bringing chivalry back to modern-day living. In February 2009, Chivas Regal also conducted a national poll to find Australia ’s most chivalrous man with Hugh Jackman, Glenn McGrath and Ron Barassi topping the list.

Highlights include:

·         YAKUSAN conceptualized the design concept in conjunction with Team Event for Chivas Regal with each zone in The Chivas Studio space subtly highlighting key brand elements in the form of design, colour and material, taking inspiration from the Philippe Starck designed Baccarat Museum in Paris which features an installation in the setting of typical, luxurious Chivas lounge environment.

·         A highlight of the event space was a 5 metre by 2.5 metre custom designed back bar installation crafted from wire, perspex, light bulbs, florescent lights and metal integrating Chivas Regal bottles. The installation was the centre piece of The Chivas Studio and complemented by the use of light and colour featured in the soft furnishings.

·         Up and coming designer, Caroline Choker conceptualised the installation, Team Event brought it to life and managed the build and installation. The concept was based on the brand identity for The Chivas Studio which is presented in the form of a vine. The brief set by the Chivas Regal brand team was to create an art installation that integrated the brand display for the Chivas portfolio and the campaign message Live with Chivalry. The design was inspired by the work of artist Daniele Buetti who incorporates light and text to convey her message. Further inspiration came from the mosaic works of Saimir Strati who sculpted Leonardo Da Vinci’s face in the form of nails to give it life and texture.
