Remembering Monica Hole

Monica Hole

15 April 1970 to 11 December 2008

Monica Hole, colleague and friend to many in the industry, passed away on 11th December 2008 after losing her long battle with liver cancer.

Monica was co-founder and partner of Condiment Communications with Sally McIntosh who remembers her long time friend.

Sydney born, Monica’s career however took her to London and New York where she spent 6 years at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel as Director of Marketing for Food & Beverage.

Monica returned to Sydney in early 2001 and started Condiment Communications in February 2002

Monica was an active member of many industry associations and from 2005 to 2007 she sat on the Sydney chapter executive of the International Special Events Society (ISES).

Monica will be remembered for her smart wit, her creative mind, her intellect, her professional attitude and passion for the industry. She was not only respected by her clients for her ability to understand and deliver, but all who came in contact with her enjoyed working and spending time with her.

Monica is survived by her husband, David Barnett and her step-daughter, Chloe.

President, Meg Fisher, on behalf of the ISES Sydney chapter

Monica followed on from Sally McIntosh in 2005 in the voluntary portfolio of Vice President of Marketing in the ISES Executive Board and remained on the board for two years giving three years of support from their company Condiment Communications.

During her time, Monica was instrumental in driving the marketing of monthly members meetings, monitoring the website and any changes required, dealing with trade shows and the variety of marketing administration a membership association requires.

We greatly appreciated the level of detail these two ladies gave to ISES, the ideas and imagination, and their calm and humorous outlook on life.

We are sad for Sally in the loss of her business partner and friend and sadder still not to have Monica‘s beautiful face smiling at us throughout our events industry meetings.

And a personal note from ASE publisher Trevor Connell

I knew Sally and Monica through ISES and also through their business both as a client and as a recipient of their media releases on behalf of industry events.  Although I was aware of Monica’s illness I also observed her devotion to her work and forever cheery personality.

Monica’s funeral was held in the Catholic Church that was so much a part of her life – from baptism through school, marriage and final requiem.

The large turnout at Monica’s funeral was testament to the high regard in which she was held in her local community, her family and friends and also colleagues in the event industry.  Monica’s wake was held at the Lidcombe Catholic Club where she also served as a board member.

Farewell my friend.
