The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was the winner of two major industry awards last night at the 2008 Victorian Meetings & Events Industry Awards (MEA), held at the prestigious RACV Club in Melbourne.
The MEA Awards recognise the pursuit of excellence in business practice in the Australian Meeting and Events Industry.
MCEC’s Event Operations Manager Chris Connelly won the MEA award for Operations Person of the Year, a testament to his exceptional leadership qualities and operational and management skills.
Chris Connelly heads operations for the hundreds of events the MCEC holds each year.
MCEC chief executive Leigh Harry said, ‘Chris’ efforts have been instrumental in securing significant accolades and accreditations for the MCEC, and this commitment and initiative has gained him enormous respect with his colleagues and the meetings and events industry in general. Chris and his team are the key players in ensuring the seamless opening of the Melbourne’s new convention centre this year which will be the most advanced convention and exhibition space in the Southern Hemisphere.’
MCEC’s Food and Beverage Manager Frank Burger and MCEC Executive Chef, Shaun Bowles collected the MEA award for Banqueting and Catering.
‘The MCEC is at the forefront of business events catering with its own experienced in-house chefs, dedication to quality produce from local producers, support of the Victorian wine industry and continuous interaction with clients to ensure the success of every event,’ Leigh said on congratulating Frank and Shaun and the entire MCEC Food and Beverage team.
