Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre awarded Best Environmental Supplier at AIME 2009

19th February 2009

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has once again been named ‘Best Environmental Supplier’ at AIME 2009, the Asia Pacific’s premier event for the business events industry.

For the second year running, the MCEC was presented with the award in recognition of its ongoing efforts to ensure AIME is a sustainable event by providing first class operations and a range of green event options focusing on recycling, waste handling and waste minimisation.

As the only convention and exhibition venue in Australia with both Green Globe and Waste Wise accreditation and with the world’s first, and one and only ‘6 Star Green Star’ convention centre under its stewardship, the MCEC is leading the way when it comes to environmental initiatives.

As well as working closely with clients to create sustainable events, the MCEC has established  the M Green team, a group of dedicated employees whose job is to come up with fresh initiatives and new strategies to continue to benchmark and progress the MCEC’s environmental performance.

The M Green micro-site www.mcec.com.au/experience has also been developed to assist meeting planners in sourcing information and advice on how to incorporate green solutions into their events at the MCEC.

In congratulating the MCEC team for their efforts, chief executive Leigh Harry said the 2009 AIME Best Environmental Supplier award reflects the MCEC’s commitment to working towards an environmentally sustainable business and industry.

‘We are dedicated to ensuring that the MCEC operates with the environment front-of-mind in every capacity, whether it be the way we dispose of our waste, to recycling, to how we work together with our clients to deliver innovative, environmentally-friendly options for their meetings, events and conventions.’
