A star-studded charity event in just eight days

Lucas Neill, Tim Cahill and Mark Schwarzer
2nd April 2009

cicreate – the production arm of Australia’s leading event management company CiEvents – has once again risen to a challenge, organising a star-studded charity event in just eight days.

Hosted by Socceroo stars Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill and Mark Schwarzer at Star City Casino, the exclusive Fire & Flood Benefit event was staged to raise money to help those individuals, families and communities that have been devastated by fire and flood in Northern Queensland and rural Victoria.   As well as coming on board to facilitate the event, cicreate was also a proud partner, donating considerable time and resources.  Star City was a major sponsor of the event and The Sony Foundation Australia the beneficiary.

130 guests from the worlds of sports, entertainment, government and business attended the intimate event to pledge their support, including Socceroo team mates John Aloisi, Harry Kewell and Marco Bresciano as well as Brett Lee, Grant Hackett, Ian Thorpe and John Eales to name but a few.

Not only was cicreate tasked with organising the staging and managing the overall production of the event in eight days, it also developed collateral, invitations, finalised attendees and worked in partnership with The Sony Foundation Australia to secure performances from acts such as Wes Carr, Katie Noonan, Angel and Rudely Interrupted.  Alan Jones was the MC for the evening and speeches were heard from the likes of the Hon. Julia Gillard MP and NSW Premier Nathan Rees MP.

The cicreate team also managed the silent and live auctions which gave guests the opportunity to bid for incredible ‘money-can’t buy’ experiences such as two ringside Hatton vs. Pacquio title fight tickets at MGM Vegas; A-Reserve F1 tickets including Mark Webber pit lane access, and; the chance to walk the red carpet at the Australian premiere of Hugh Jackman’s latest movie, Wolverine.   Over $250,000 was raised on the night itself, with proceeds still coming through.

Gayee McGrath, Executive General Manager, CiEvents, said, “Whether we have a few months, or in this case a few days to turn an event around, the cicreate team is always 100 per cent committed to delivering and exceeding expectations.   The eight-day timeframe to stage an event of this scale was certainly challenging, but the team worked closely with supporting sponsor Star City and beneficiary The Sony Foundation Australia to rise to the challenge, drawing on their extensive experience and contacts to ensure the night was a resounding success.

“Ever since our Director of Sales, Natalie Simmons, was first approached about this event, the team has been waiting with anticipation to see it through.  It has been a great experience and we’re thrilled that so much money has been raised to support those people affected by such tragic events.”
