New Crown Hotel for Melbourne

Construction continues at a rapid rate on the site for Crown’s third hotel which will open in early 2010. At an estimated cost of $AUD 300 million, the new hotel is being built at the pace of one floor every 10 days.

Crown is pleased to announce that one of the world’s most famous chefs, Gordon Ramsay, will be opening his first Australian Maze restaurant in Crown’s third hotel. Ramsay will also be responsible for the hotel’s room service menu.

By adding this yet-to-be-named 658 room hotel, Crown will offer guests, conference organisers and event planners over 1600 rooms and suites from which to choose.

Australia ’s newest property will attract international leisure guests as well as cater for global convention and conference delegates. The hotel will feature a day spa, restaurant, lounge, bar and retail precinct.

The Chief Executive Officer of Crown Melbourne, David Courtney , states that the new hotel is a demonstration of the confidence Crown has in the future of Melbourne as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.

“The development of the new hotel demonstrates Crown’s commitment to excellence in design and style and will be an invaluable addition to Melbourne ’s tourism infrastructure,” he said.

The new hotel’s main entrance will face Clarendon Street and is close to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and will also complement the new Plenary Hall and Convention Centre being built by the Victorian Government at Docklands.

“The combination of the MCEC with Crown’s entertainment offer and 1600 hotel rooms provides a compelling offer to the international conference and conventions market,” he said.

Crown estimates that the new hotel will annually accommodate approximately 340 000 guests including 100 000 visitors from overseas. The Crown Entertainment Complex already attracts approximately 16 million visitors a year.

Crown Melbourne continues to offer guests and visitors an unsurpassed experience with a myriad of choices for dining, entertainment and accommodation.
