Be Smarter – an event management conference creating sustainable outcomes

Bendigo, 4 January 2010

Events impact on the environment, so what’s the answer?  No more events: no more concerts, markets, festivals, expos?  Or do we establish a better way of doing things to ensure events provide minimal impact, and maybe provide maximum education about issues such as the environment.

Rob Gell, environmental and communications expert, will provide some inspiring insights into just how this outcome can be achieved, considering economic and social impacts at the Be Smarter Event Management Conference to be held in Bendigo on February 12-13, 2010 at the LaTrobe University Visual Arts Centre and The Capital.

Director Time & Place Event Solutions Abigail Place said the motivation for running the conference was to provide nationally acclaimed professional development to a growing sector in regional Victoria.

“What is the Triple Bottom Line?  It is expected that events achieve, at least, a breakeven result however the impacts made by events also need to be measured in terms of social and environmental factors,” Ms Place said.

“The conference fee is accessible and it is hoped that a greater number of regional personnel develop their skills to provide sustainable events with long term benefits to local communities and businesses.

“With so many amazing events such as music and wine festivals, agricultural shows, trade expos and markets regional Victoria is buzzing with activity so a two day conference providing the opportunity to learn more about how to deliver events effectively and network with other industry contacts was an important inclusion in the City of Greater Bendigo events calendar.

“We are delighted to have the support of the City of Greater Bendigo to help make this a significant event.”

City of Greater Bendigo City Futures Director Stan Liacos said the conference would challenge many aspects of event management.

“This conference will explore, engage and confront the way you will go about your business,” Mr Liacos said.
