Fifteen partnership agreements are being developed with the business events industry to implement a $2 million cooperative program to stimulate business travel within Australia. Announced by Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP, the funds will assist the industry to capitalise on the global economic recovery.
The projects are being developed with $1 million contributed by Tourism Australia, matched with a $1 million contribution by Convention Bureaux and State Tourism Organisations. Eleven organisations will receive funding for specific business events activities. The involvement of four State and Regional Tourism Organisations and seven Convention Bureaux from across Australia highlights the industry’s interest in partnering with Tourism Australia to grow business events in 2010.
A number of major business conventions, scheduled for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra, will receive funding for delegate boosting. Marketing campaigns in Victoria, New South Wales and Cairns will promote the value of meeting in outstanding regional destinations. The Northern Territory, Perth, Whitsundays and Tasmania have proposed a range of tactical and educational programs which will receive funding support.
