Staging Connections has been a supporter of AIME for ten years and a sponsor of the Welcome Reception for the past six years.
In 2010 Staging Connections once again sponsored AIME, and in collaboration with the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau, developed the theme and delivered event staging for Welcome Reception, the most anticipated annual industry function.
The theme for the AIME 2010 Welcome Reception held at The Goods Shed, South and attended by over 2500 delegates, was “City Streets Meet Urban Chic”. The theme blended the inherent industrial nature of the venue, with leftover machinery from its past and random industrial sculptures from the present, juxtaposed with an organic, manicured rooftop style garden complete with living wall and designer lounging.
As well as creating event environment, features designed by Staging Connections to bring The Goods Shed, South to life included an edgy poster-and-stencil treatment of the stark brick walls, merging existing graffiti with street art trends that reinforced the culture and cuisine of each food station installation.
The existing industrial machinery, hard bolted to the floor was converted into works of art through repainting in vivid colours that linked back to each culinary experience. Giant sculptures, leftover from freeway art projects, were illuminated and adapted into unusual canopies for bars and service areas. Creative lighting and sound further supported the space.
The Staging Connections Melbourne team responsible for the Welcome Reception include Project Manager Rob Meek, Event Stylist and Designer Corina Ginakis and Technical Directors Craig Smith and Stephen Davidson.
