The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) pulled out all the stops for delegates at the annual Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo (AIME) welcome lunch in the grand banquet room to showcase the wide variety and outstanding quality of produce currently on offer from
Victoria
’s diverse regions.
The MCEC is committed to supporting local producers and wine growers, and the AIME welcome lunch was an opportunity to introduce more than 400 national and international hosted buyers to a selection of seasonal dishes created from quality Victorian produce.
The menu took the form of a bespoke placemat with a map of
Victoria
indicating where each key ingredient was sourced allowing guests to visually trace their lunch tour through the State.
The gastronomic tour of
Victoria
began with the entrees in Warragul, east of
Melbourne
, with Vitello tonnato; poached Warrugal veal and tuna mayonnaise served with a salad of watercress, anchovy and roasted artichoke.
Delegates travelled north to the
Yarra
Valley
to sample cured salmon with salmon roe, and then headed west to Daylesford to enjoy smoked eel and Tuki Springs smoked trout brandade with beetroot remoulade and horseradish cream.
Produce from Gippsland and the
Mornington
Peninsula
was showcased during the main course with roasted rack of Gippsland lamb with cannellini bean and truffle puree, broad bean and tomato salsa, alternating with pan-fried
Western
Port
snapper accompanied by crushed green peas, pancetta, baby onions and lemon olive oil.
The
Dandenong
Ranges
was the final stop for dessert with a Silvan Estate raspberry parfait with warm caramelised peaches and almond praline.
Frank Burger, the MCEC’s food and beverage manager, said ‘The MCEC’s food and wine philosophy is to develop inspiring, seasonally-driven menus sourced from local suppliers and matched with regional wines to create a truly Victorian experience.’
