The Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, has welcomed a new $1.8 million three-year partnership to boost the business events sector for
Australia
.
The new partnership between Tourism
Australia
and the Australian Association of Convention Bureaux (AACB) aims to build awareness of
Australia
as a destination for conventions for the lucrative International Associations market.
Association meetings bring professionals together to showcase research, offer professional and educational development and networking opportunities.
Minister Ferguson said the new association partnership would help
Australia
gain further traction internationally as a world-class destination for business events and that it comes at a very important time.
“It is appropriate that Tourism Australia continue to expand its work with the business events sector to help capitalise upon the recent global upturn in consumer confidence,” he said.
“
Australia
has long been recognised internationally as a desirable destination for business events due to the combination of world-class facilities in incredible locations and creativity of our events people. This high-yielding sector presents enormous opportunities for
Australia
however there is a
lot of competition internationally.”
Bidding for Association meetings occurs up to 10 years before the event is held so building long-term relationships with those involved in the bidding process is critical to achieving results and new business for
Australia
.
The Tourism Australia and AACB partnership will see each partner contribute $300,000 per annum for three years.
The activity will be delivered as an initiative of Team
Australia
the joint marketing alliance between Tourism
Australia
and the AACB.
Further details about the initiatives to be delivered under the new partnership will be unveiled in May at the worldwide exhibition for meetings and incentive travel, IMEX 2010 in
Frankfurt
,
Germany
