The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) won ‘Best Achievement in Catering’ for their work on the 2010 Good Food & Wine Show at the Australian Event Awards in Sydney on 7 October 2010.
Surpassing hundreds of entries from across Australia, the MCEC was recognised for its innovation in building an entire restaurant for the show and feeding 4000 hungry foodies.
Led by MCEC’s food and beverage director Frank Burger and executive chef Shaun Bowles, the dishes of celebrity chefs, George Calombaris, Peter Evans and Gary Mehigan were re-created in-house with sustainable produce from local Victorian suppliers.
MCEC’s chief executive Leigh Harry said “This award acknowledges our commitment to providing original and high quality catering services that support Victoria’s regional producers and farmers. I congratulate our in-house kitchen team on leading the Australian catering and events industry.”
On tasting his re-created dish at the show, chef, restaurateur and MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan said “You get the real deal, you get all the taste you want and don’t have to worry about anything, Shaun knows exactly what I want.”
MCEC prides itself on showcasing Melbourne’s reputation for culinary diversity and world-class food and wine to its local, national and international audience.
