MCI Australia partners with the Van Wright Foundation in delivering an inaugural gala dinner to be held on 21 February 2014 at the Plaza Ballroom in Melbourne’s Regent Theatre.
The event is aimed at promoting awareness of MECP2 Duplication Syndrome and to raise much needed funds for research into a cure or treatment for the disorder.
Through industry connections and networks, MCI Australia’s Project Director, Cindy-Lee Bakos, discovered the Van Wright Foundation which was set up by Phil Wright of Exponet and his wife Collene—the parents of Van Wright. At 15 months of age, Van was diagnosed with MECP2 duplication syndrome which is aprogressive neurological disorder.
Phil Wright explains if the foundation can find the money, the scientists can find a cure.
“With scientists confident that this newly discovered disorder will be treatable, adequate funding is crucial to progressing research into a cure.”
“A cure or treatment will significantly impact the lives of potentially thousands affected by this disorder and will progress work into other disorders like Rett syndrome, autism and intellectual disability.”
The partnership with the Van Wright Foundation provides MCI Australia the opportunity to lend their skills and expertise in the area of event management in providing strategic guidance and logistical support for the inaugural gala dinner.
MCI Australia sought out a national charity partner that was aligned with their sustainability goals and at a ‘grass-roots’ level, allowing both partners to grow together.
MCI Australia’s Managing Director, Stephan Wurzinger, is incredibly proud of the team’s dedication to the event.
“It’s fantastic to see the team showing initiative in aligning with a national charity partner that not only promotes a worthy cause, but also encourages thought leadership in establishing an inaugural event. It’s great to be able to use our skill set in such a meaningful way.”
MCI Australia has a successful track record as thought leaders in sustainability. In 2013 MCI was a finalist in the highly regarded Banksia Awards and in 2012, they were state finalists for the Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) CSR Award.
The foundation is also being supported by several industry partners and suppliers including Starcom and Clemenger BBDO.
