In its first entry since emerging from the prestigious meetings and events Hall of Fame, MCI Australia won three categories at the national Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) annual awards.
In addition to winning Best Meetings & Events Management Organisation – 8 Employees or more, the company also took line honours for its contribution to talent Education and CSR.
Accepting the accolade, MCI Business Unit Directors, Nick Millis (Corporate), and Stephan Wurzinger (PCO), acknowledged the recognition from MEA and paid tribute to MCI’s commitment to outstanding delivery, client service and innovative solutions provided by their team in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Nick spoke of the importance of celebrating the power of industry collaboration and resilience and thanked key suppliers, partners and destinations for their contribution to the award and MCI success.
Responding to the Education award, Stephan outlined MCI’s philosophy as a two pronged approach around client success and staff retention – focusing on the consistent delivery of world’s best practice.
“We fulfill our client offerings through continual acquisition and application of knowledge to produce successful, creative, educational and aspirational experiences that we can be proud of, aiming every time to surpass client expectations,” he said.
“And internally we recognise that a happy, stable workplace is key to service continuity. Education is essential in engaging and retaining our talent, which is why we have such a strong focus on professional development, with offerings such as one on one mentoring, weekly learning hours, annual in-house conferences, industry education, access to Harvard Business modules, and access to hundreds of hours of structured sessions via MCI’s own Institute.”
MCI’s win for contribution to CSR was recognised and included initiatives such as community action (pro bono services for two national causes, the Nelune Foundation which supports patients with cancer and the Van Wright Foundation for genetic disease research).
“Underlying MCI’s approach to CSR is its obligation to grow its business sustainably and responsibly in a way that supports communities and safeguards the physical and social environment for both our clients and our business,” Stephan said.
“If we find the right balance, our business will continue to prosper and bring value not only to our current stakeholders, but also to future generations.”
He also highlighted MCI’s long term contribution to the meetings and events industry.
MCI has been a member of MEA member since 1982 and during the award qualifying period, set up a work experience program for 5 students from local universities (a fulltime position ensuing for one), provided senior management for industry boards, panels, workshops in Australia, the Asia Pacific and globally, and ensured staff attended as many industry events as possible.
