I really wasn’t sure how this was going to work.
We were told it was to be a silent rave party. Initially I thought “well that’s stupid”. Then I thought “could be great for networking” – no loud music to drown out the conversation.
So, some initial milling around – mostly getting fed (catering by BCEC), hitting the bar and checking out some roving entertainment.
Then out came the headsets. Initially guests were a bit bemused by this but then gradually they started gathering into groups as they worked out who else was listing to the same DJ (there were three options). Eventually most had taken on headsets and tuned in.
For the finale the three channels merged to take the last couple of songs, including “Will I ever see your face again”, a standard MEA party song since Alice Springs.
So did it work? Well surprisingly, yes!
