Report and photography by Saffrine Nydegger
With a fabulous industrial feel of polished concrete floors, exposed steel rods and large thick pillars, Simmer on the Bay is one of Sydney’s great new event venues. Situated on Hickson Road with glimpses of Sydney Harbour through the wharves that house the arts community including Sydney Theatre Company and Sydney dance Company.
The venue has built in technology to create a rich glowing red atmosphere and a theatrical touch throughout the evening via bright blue roving lights fitted with gobos.
A Moulin Rouge feel is achieved with props such as a giant swinging chair, chandeliers and a fibre optic sculpture. Florist Naomi Jones utilised a beautiful old vine to create a sculpture of hanging orchids and grapes along with open flame candles.
An abundance of food including rustic gourmet pizza’s, butter scallops and warm asparagus wrap’s, ensured no one was without a drink or a little parcel of something.
Plenty of conversations, laughing and a general good feel to this night and the room was still full when I left showing a great night had by all….
