Meetings and Events Australia have announced the keynote session for their 2016 National Conference.
2015 Melbourne Cup winner Michelle Payne will be stirring audience at the April event held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Award winning journalist, Sara James will interview Payne on the morning of the first day of the conference and this inspirational session will set the tone for a conference full of innovation and fresh idea.
The theme of this year’s event is “Breaking Convention” and Payne did just that when she became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne cup in it’s 155 year history.
Payne’s chances of winning the race was literally 100-1 and she had suffered through physical injuries and chauvinistic attitudes expressed by some in the support. When accepting her trophy Payne closed her speech by saying “I want to say to everyone else, get stuffed, because women can do anything and we can beat the world.”
MEA CEO Linda Gaunt said they were looking for something different for the 2016 conference and believe Payne is perfect for the event.
“Michelle not only has a history of ‘breaking conventions’ but she is also new and unlike many speakers we’ve had before,” Linda Gaunt said.
“I think she’ll bring great energy and motivation to our National Conference delegates, I can’t wait.”
The MEA 2016 National Convention takes place in Melbourne this year over April 17 to 19. The event provides two days of workshops, informative speakers and networking events and concludes with the National Awards Gala dinner.
