The NSW Government has announced that NBC’s top rating morning show TODAY will host a special live broadcast from Sydney on Monday 4 May 2015. The Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) has welcomed the news noting that advertising like this is something money can’t buy.
TTF Chief Executive Margy Osmond said “This is a wonderful opportunity to show off all Sydney has to offer to a very important visitor market – the United States.
“TODAY is one of the top rating morning shows in America with over 5.5 million people tuning in each day. This is a great opportunity to beam images of our beautiful city directly into these homes. Advertising on a major TV show like this would be prohibitively expensive, so it’s great to see the government thinking creatively about how to pitch Sydney to the world.
“This event will capitalise on the very successful visits to Australia by Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres and the cast of Modern Family. Each of these visits positioned Australia as an exciting and desirable destination. These endorsements of our nation are priceless.
“Last year more than 320,000 visitors travelled to NSW from North America in the year ending September 2014. These visitors stayed 4.3 million nights, providing a $535 million boost to the local economy.
“This initiative will help to ensure these numbers continue to grow, benefiting a wide range of sectors in both regional and urban areas.”
