As Novatech grows from strength to strength, the company provides an insight into attracting and retaining and developing their staff.
Novatech started life back in 2001. Initially ‘Novatech Productions,’ brothers, Leko and Milenko Novakovic started the production company servicing local Adelaide nightclubs. Over the years, the small team grew as quickly as their inventory, enhancing their expertise in many facets of the industry in the process. Skip ahead to 2018, Novatech Creative Event Technology is a nationally recognised team of over 80 event professionals delivering events across the industry, including concerts, outdoor festivals, corporate events, conferences and special events, as well as across the country and internationally.
As the team has grown, so too has the professionalism of Novatech in reviewing how they look after their staff, how they attract new talent and how they foster the growth and development of existing employees. Most recently, Novatech has fast-tracked the review of their current employment contracts and benefits with the new and improved offering being rolled out to staff over the next few months. A family owned and run company, Novatech’s owners and management team have long known that their people make the difference and have firmly entrenched this mantra as part of the long-term business plan in the form of a major goal of being the employer of choice in the market.
Working towards this ambitious goal has led to key benefits such as a generous internal reward and recognition scheme that allows peer to peer recognition. Every quarter this in turn leads to a prize giving ceremony of tailor made prizes ranging from gift vouchers to hot air balloon rides through to interest trips and high-end BBQ smokers. It’s the business’s way of ensuring everyone is recognised for their efforts and working as a team.
This in turn goes hand in hand with the health and wellbeing program that sees benefits such as free fresh fruit delivered daily, free annual health checks and free flu shots offered to all staff. It’s not just the physical side of health and wellbeing of their staff that Novatech consider with free mental health support and counselling available on a confidential basis. A comprehensive health and wellbeing program is critical to the success of a modern business such as Novatech.
With the focus of people in mind, twelve months ahead of schedule, the business decided a new comprehensive employment contract was required to continue building the benefits to the existing staff and assist in attracting new staff. Key highlights of the new contracts including a loyalty leave program that allows staff to obtain additional annual leave through longevity in the business as well as more short benefits such as weekend bonuses, improved tour allowances, staff referral program and a short shift change bonus.
Novatech already have attracted staff from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth as well as the UK to make their new home in Adelaide, South Australia. Staff have been attracted to Novatech and Adelaide, by the high standard of equipment, the standard of systems and process as well as incentives such as relocation assistance and sign on bonuses. Novatech understand that making the leap of faith not only to a new company, but to a new state, is a large decision in anyone’s world, and they work closely with any prospective employee to understand their family situation and any special needs or considerations for partners, family or personal requirements.
As well as the considerable financial benefits, Novatech is keen to share how the South Australian lifestyle and cost of living benefits compare to other states. From 70% of the country’s premium wine districts, to fresh and abundant food resources to the sunshine and fresh air of the Hills, beaches and Murray River water sports – all within an hour of the capital. Being central, Adelaide is the perfect home base for tours to Darwin, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney as well as the quick hop across to Melbourne or Canberra as required.
Leko Novakovic, Managing Director of Novatech, said “In the modern world where it’s popular to state that ‘people are your biggest asset’, we wanted to actually express that through actions and we believe the new employment contracts clearly show we mean what we say.
“We’ve undertaken a comprehensive review of what our people want and need as well as bringing in consultants to ensure we’re ahead of best practice for our industry. As we grow, we want to bring outstanding people along on our journey with quality, enjoyment and development in mind.
“We’re proud of what we’re able to offer our staff and want them to prosper as we continue to set a new standard in what an audiovisual company can be.”
In recognition of the quality of events that Novatech delivers as well as how the business operates and contributes back to the industry, they were recently awarded the National Award for AudioVisual Services in the 2017 Meetings and Events Australia Awards against some serious competition.
Novatech welcome confidential chats with any new prospective employees to see what their next
adventure may look like. Novatech are proud of their team and look forward to becoming the national
employer of choice from their home base of Adelaide.
