With over 70,000 runners crossing the start-line in 2014, at 7 different times, staggered within a 90 min window – the Fairfax Media Events team expertly handles the logistical challenge of organising and corralling participants spread from the War Memorial to Martin Place. To assist the event organization, The P.A. People once again supplied and installed the Start and Finish Line PA systems.
Setting up a PA that covers nearly 2.5km of Sydney and Bondi streets in its self is a logistical challenge. Designing a flexible system that would both pump out Redfoo’s start line mix and provide a distributed P.A. for information and health safety announcements without waking up the ever increasing number of people that live in the city is complex.
To help make it happen, this year we utilised a Yamaha Dante audio networking solution to distribute the program audio from the control position to the amplifier locations. This allowed greater flexibility in zoning and balancing the system while improving the overall sound quality.
“Our approach to these events has grown and developed over the years and 2014 was no exception; continuing design improvements were implemented to further enhance the level of production and interaction. This methodology ensures that we deliver improved production quality each year for the event organisers, so the participants walk away at the end of the day – happy and looking forward to next year’s event” said Travis Henry, Manager – Event Communications.
Over the last few years the demands placed on the audio system for the City 2 Surf have increased. This year’s move to a digital transport system represents just another step in continuous improvement that delivers additional value to our clients.
