During February, delegates from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) visited Edinburgh to extend an invitation to the Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSE) to attend the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2015 (RACS ASC).
The delegates consisted of the President of RACS, Michael Hollands and RACS Executive, Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) Chairman Ian Laurance AM, Agent General for Western Australia in London, Kevin Skipworth CVO and PCB Chief Executive Officer Paul Beeson.
PCB Chairman, Mr Laurance, spoke at a meeting of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. “The Edinburgh College is the largest and oldest in the world having received its Royal Charter in 1505. It is a wonderful coup for the Perth Convention Bureau to be able to leverage off the centenary of the first Anzac Day to attract an additional 1000 international delegates to attend the RACS Congress to be held in Perth in May 2015.” he said.
He also mentioned, “Many military surgeons from around the world will attend the Congress in Perth and will be keen to attend Anzac celebrations in Albany following the Congress. With 1000 additional delegates attracted by the Anzac connection we expect 4500 delegates in total. This represents a real fillip for the West Australian economy.”
The RACS ASC 2015 will be the largest, highest yielding medical congress staged in Perth to date, and has the potential to expand to 4500 international surgeons.
“The exchange of knowledge across all export sectors, particularly in the medical research area is also a key focus for WA and the Australasian College of Surgeons will benefit from WA’s new status as the nation’s scientific knowledge hub” Kevin Skipworth, Agent General for Western Australia in London , said of the upcoming congress.
“The benefits to Western Australia’s economy will be substantial. The Perth Annual Scientific Congress will be one of the largest conferences in the State since CHOGM 2011, and the highest yielding ever” PCB, CEO, Paul Beeson commented.
As part of RSCE, RACS will offer the 4,500 surgeons and delegates customised pre and post touring packages to both the North West and South West of Western Australia.
