This could very well have not been the best AIME Welcome party so far. But the Melbourne weather gods smiled and it was.
Event Producer, Alex Nihill told ASE the bump in was fraught as Melbourne was drenched the night before the set-up started (on Sunday).
The approach to Birrarung Marr is on foot – either from Federation Square or from the bus drop-off point adjacent to the MCG. So guests were greeted by workers dressed in hi-viz to escort them to the venue – over a progressive red carpet (as guests walked over the carpet it was rolled up and laid out in front of them again).
The theme of the event was Pop Up Melbourne – and that is just what happened, the basic infrastructure popped up on Sunday and then the food trucks and entertainment popped in on the day of the event. Then by mid-afternoon the following day it was all gone.
The key people behind the event were Peter Jones who conceptualised the event and then those who made it happen – Alexandra Nihill (Event Producer), Aimee Luxton (Catering manager), Michael Begg (Harry The Hirer) and Nic Yates (Creative Entertainment Concepts)
As the bump-out was being finalised Alex and Michael spoke to ASE about how it came together… You may notice the Federation Bells chiming away in the background of this interview. The crew were kept on their toes by these musical interludes all through the bump-in and out…
