Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) will lead a delegation of 44 Queensland tourism businesses on a trade mission to New Zealand, the state’s largest international visitor market, with the 2015 Queensland on Tour arriving in Auckland today.
TEQ Chief Executive, Leanne Coddington, said the trade mission would see Queensland tourism businesses meet with more than 100 New Zealand travel trade partners to promote the state’s tourism products and grow business opportunities.
“Queensland on Tour New Zealand is an extremely popular event with several destinations looking to capitalise on tourism opportunities with our Tasman neighbours,” Ms Coddington said.
“Tourism operators from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Southern Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Coast, Whitsundays, Outback, Townsville and Tropical North Queensland will be represented on the mission.”
The latest statistics from Tourism Research Australia revealed 405,000 New Zealanders visited Queensland in the year ending September 2014, making it the state’s largest international market by visitor numbers.
New Zealand travellers spent almost $520 million during that same period, an increase of six per cent compared with the year prior.
“Queensland on Tour New Zealand forms part of a series of initiatives aimed at attracting more visitors to the state, and follows on from last week’s news that Queensland will host the only Trans-Tasman NRL Test for 2015 in Brisbane in May,” Ms Coddington said.
“While on tour, the participating operators will represent Queensland’s tourism industry at the Flight Centre Expo in Auckland, the largest consumer travel show in New Zealand.
“TEQ’s commercial partnership with Flight Centre has supported a strong presence for the state at this year’s expo, with 19 booths and 27 tourism operators creating a Queensland-themed corridor of tourism products to further entice visitors to the state.”
Queensland on Tour New Zealand is held at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland on Tuesday 3 February 2015.
