Meetings & Event Australia (MEA) attended the launch of the NSW Regional Conferencing Strategy in Tamworth today by NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, the Hon. Adam Marshall MP. The initiative is designed to attract more business events to regional areas.
Robyn Johnson, CEO of MEA, said, “MEA congratulates Minister Marshall and Destination NSW for developing a tailored strategy to attract business events to regional NSW. The business events industry is one of Australia’s growing commercial sectors. Regional Australia has excellent venues and event support services that both complement and contrast more traditional city locations.
MEA recently announced a new regional membership package for companies and individuals delivering events or event services outside capital cities and major centres across Australia. MEA will be introducing more programs to provide support to the regions, particularly access to event industry based education to upskill the workforce in rural and regional destinations.
“This strategic plan will strongly support regional destinations to attract and deliver business events as well as measure their value to the local economies. There is clear evidence that the benefits go way beyond the financial contribution, as events create opportunities for new and improved infrastructure that can also be enjoyed by the local communities. They create local jobs and grow business activities”, added Ms Johnson.
