The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth today welcomed Danish Crown Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik on what was an exciting day two of their current 6 day Australian tour. The Royal couple arrived around 9.15am to a huge media pack, appreciative locals stopping on their way to work, and travelling Danes who had waited for a glimpse of their popular royal family.
The couple were visiting the Sofitel to attend ‘Bright Green Denmark’ designed to help profile Denmark and Danish businesses in Australia with a focus on renewable energy and food technology. Sofitel Melbourne On Collins will host a similar event later this week that the Royal couple are also expected to attend.
At the Sofitel in Sydney, the Crown Prince and Princess attended an environmental conference in the gala ballroom called ‘State of Green’ on Danish clean energy, followed by a cooking demonstration with the famous Danish chef Rasmus Kafoed, Sydney chef Matt Moran and Sofitel’s own Executive Chef, Boris Cuzon.
Princess Mary traded her tiara for a chef hat and serving spoon to help garnish Mr Moran’s seafood salad and Mr Kofoed’s white chocolate and jelly dessert, enjoying lunch before departing for Sydney’s west to visit Westmead Cancer Centre at Westmead Hospital.
Earlier that day the Royal two had retired to the hotel’s lavish Club Sofitel executive lounge for a private meeting with NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell, before Prince Frederik headed to Government House for a meeting with Governor Marie Bashir.
In addition to assisting with the gastronomy event today, Sofitel’s Boris Cuzon joined Rasmus Kofoed in the kitchen over the weekend for a film shoot to showcase the best of Danish and French Australian cuisine for a European television program. Boris said it was a thrill to meet Kofoed, the chef and restaurateur behind Geranium in Copenhagen who this year won a gold
medal France’s biannual elite cooking contest, Bocuse d’Or. The couple will make an appearance at the Sofitel Melbourne On Collins later this week Victoria’s turn at hosting the Bright Green Denmark event
