Andrea Heath and Jackie Rouleston Stuart like to party. Andrea owns Onstage Entertainment and Jackie is the Queensland manager of Solution Red so between them they have access to great themeing and entertainment. Add to that a venue and catering and you have all the elements required for a great party. Invite a guest list of 300 PCOs and event coordinators and you have a showcase.
This is now the fourth showcase event the pair have produced and Jackie told ASE that following three successful cocktail parties in specialist event venues they felt the time was right to take the event to another level.
So this year’s event was held at BCEC and went like this…
Welcome and registration – guests were welcomed by fancy waiters on stilts and enjoying canapes when a marching band paraded through the guests and entered the Plaza Ballroom with accompanying dancers inviting the guests to follow.
The Ballroom was certainly a sight to behold with two long tables set for dinner for 300 guests. Between the tables, on a themed riser, a professional body painting artist was painting a Mexican bolero top onto the torso of a male model. She later went on to paint another model to suit the Day of the Dead theme that permeated the room. Meanwhile two stiltwalkers in massive led lit frocks wandered through the tables as DJ Mr Smith worked on the groove.
Raw Dance provided the opening dance act and then our hosts welcomed guests to the award winning BCEC. Guests tucked into share plates of the highest quality local produce prepared by Executive Chef Martin Latter.
An excerpt from a documentary shown recently on ABCTV about Michelle Ryan introduced the dancer who then gave a short performance while seated.
Michelle told the audience that when she wakes up in the morning she asks herself three questions. “Can I see? Can I feel my legs?” and “Can I stand up?” “If I can do all those three things I go ‘tick’ and move on with my day,” she says.
Michelle knows full well how it feels when the answer is “no”. She was 30 when multiple sclerosis entered her life.
Michelle is a delightful interview subject who speaks with candour about her disease and how she is continuing her dance career as Artistic Director of Restless Dance Theatre; a youth dance company for dancers with a disability.
Vixen are a vocal quartet who pump out the moves and grooves of the likes of Pussycat Dolls, Destiny’s Child or The Spice Girls and when they were joined onstage by Lady Chastity the crowd went wild. Four petite girls joined by a 6’ drag queen singing “It’s Raining Men” just had to finish with fireworks.
The Ballroom doors were flung open and a bunch of “morphs” then escorted the guests downstairs to the Boulevard Room for dessert from BCEC and entertainment from the Groove Elements band. Meanwhile the body painted models offered trays of sweets and guests headed to The Ultimate Selfie studio to have their framed photo with Mr & Mrs Pink & Blue immediately shared on Facebook.
Summing up the event Andrea Heath told ASE
“It’s important we maintain the reputation of #SenseUs as the must attend industry event. All of the #SenseUs partners went above and beyond to provide our guests with a ‘next level’ unique experience, offering brand new event concepts delivered with exceptional precision and with a certain flare the partners (also known as The Event Cartel) are famous for. All of the #SenseUs events have been completely different in style and delivery showcasing our ability to create tailored experiences….. I’m already looking forward to working on the creative for next year!”
