The Sydney Masonic Centre (SMC) Conference and Function Centre recently played host to the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) annual Global Health Conference (GHC) for the very first time. The venue’s advanced technological offering was a key element in being chosen for the annual conference and enabled a first time streamed question and answer session. The Q&A session was facilitated via live stream between notorious WikiLeaks founder and political activist, Julian Assange from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and the 720 attending student delegates.
Scott Cooper, Director of Sales, SMC Conference & Function Centre was thrilled to work alongside AMSA to help them bring their vision to life.
“The presence and access to high profile keynote speakers was core to the success of GHC with presenters including Nobel laureate, José Ramos-Horta, and political activist Julian Assange – both of whom are noteworthy for their contributions to global health.
“With Assange based in London our access to advanced technologies and our superior fibre optic broadband connection we had installed in 2012 made the live stream possible,” said Mr Cooper.
The SMC team and their in-house audio visual services providers worked in partnership with Mr Assange’s own technical team for many months in the lead up to the event to seamlessly organise for him to be streamed live via webcast technology Zoom. Together the technical teams conducted multiple tests in the days prior to the event to guarantee the delivery of the webcast was flawless and ensure the greatest event experience for the delegates.
Georgia Carroll, GHC Deputy Convenor was ecstatic with how smoothly and successfully the whole event was delivered thanks to the SMC team and was impressed with their dedication and cooperation during the 15-month lead up to the event.
“The venue experience at SMC enabled the presence of an international speaker and was a first for AMSA. In working with the SMC team, we were able to deliver a delegate experience unlike any other in the history of the Global Health Conference.
“SMC Conference & Function Centre was the perfect venue to reflect the association’s cause. There was no challenge that couldn’t be fixed and they [SMC] delivered the five-day event smoothly, helping us to achieve our objectives and the exciting new feature of the keynote webcast,” explained Ms Carroll.
